Financial Incentives: Landscaping for Clean Water Grants
The Landscaping for Clean Water program makes it easy for Dakota County residents to plan and
install native gardens, raingardens and native shorelines. Our Landscaping for Clean Water grant
provides awardees with two or more on-site technical assistance visits, and a $250 cost-share
check upon completion of their project.
To participate in our grant program, just follow these easy steps:
- Attend a free Landscaping for Clean Water Introductory Workshop.
- Attend a Landscaping for Clean Water Design Course: receive a raingarden book, aerial maps of your property,
and other resources, and develop site-specific project plans with expert help. (There is a one-time cost of $25 to
attend a Design Course; if you've attended one in a previous year, you do not need to pay again!)
Contact SWCD@co.dakota.mn.us for this year's dates.
- Submit an application with project plans and cost estimate to Dakota County SWCD for approval prior to beginning
installation. See fact sheet for this year's application deadlines!
If you're awarded a grant, you'll then schedule an on-site meeting with Dakota County SWCD at your home, prior to beginning
installation. Having learned all about the how-to of garden installation, plant selection, and more, you'll install your
project, per your approved plan, and then contact Dakota County SWCD staff for a final site visit.
SWCD staff will be available from start to finish to answer your questions!
"Try it! It may seem overwhelming at first, but there is great support along the way, and the finished product is so worth it!" - a 2018 participant and grant recipient
